Docket of officials' default cases, 1911-1915.

This docket recorded cases against public officials, county and state, who had defaulted in some way on payments due to the state. The Chief Examiner of Public Accounts initiated the case against the official after examining his books and finding a discrepancy. The official may have owed the state taxes, license fees, or an other tax. If the official could prove that the money was not in default or if he had satisfied the account, the case was dropped; otherwise, the case was turned over to the State Auditor for prosecution. The Chief Examiner still maintains a docket of cases against persons who have not properly or lawfully accounted for funds. The Chief Examiner certifies the discrepancy to the Attorney General or District Attorney, who institutes a civil action.
